Mali grossular

Mali grossular garnets were first discovered towards the end of the twentieth century in the West African country of Mali.

These stones have a much higher refractive index and greater brilliance than any previously known grossular garnets. This is due to their relatively high andradite component, which also accounts for their markedly higher dispersion compared with tsavorite.

This andradite component is also responsible for the yellow-green to greenish-yellow colour of these grossular garnets.
